Martin Harar is a Wealth Management Advisor with nearly 50 years of experience in all aspects of wealth management. He began his career immediately after graduating from Virginia Tech in 1977, spending 36 years at State Farm Insurance, first as an agent in Reston, Virginia, and later transitioning to management in 1995. After retiring from State Farm in 2013, Martin started his career with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.
He holds a Bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant. Martin focuses on clients' goals and concerns, utilizing a goals-based wealth management process to customize plans emphasizing asset preservation and retirement income. His areas of expertise include education planning, family wealth management strategies, legacy planning, managing new wealth, personal retirement planning, portfolio management, small business strategies, socially responsible and values-based investing, tax minimization, and retirement income.
Martin is actively involved in his community as a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas, member of the Knights of Columbus, volunteer at Charlottesville Catholic School and The Covenant School, and member of the Charlottesville Committee on Foreign Relations. He serves as President of the Charlottesville Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. He embodies Virginia Tech's motto "Ut Prosim" or "That I May Serve" in both his professional work and community involvement.
