About

I would love to meet you and be able to share with you my story where Jesus is the hero. I would love to hear yours!

I started Unburdened Financial Planning after having worked at a very large, nationwide broker dealer. While I and my colleagues worked to provide good advice and do what was best in our client's interest, I was not at peace. I was driven by my client's stress of how much money they were making, how much they had, did they make more than their friend, etc.? I was pushed by how much money I was making, how many reward trips did I earn, who did I make more money than, should I sell something just to make more money, etc.? I felt like so much of the conversations and efforts were focused on the "what" and "how" of planning. I was not pursuing peace. I was pursuing things. I was pursuing my value in my accomplishments. As a loving, father, God brought me to a point where I could see these things to be true in my life.

I believe that working as a fee-only, fiduciary planner is the best way for me to provide peace focused counsel. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. When we focus on Him is when we feel peace. Our security and worth is tied up in Him not in what we have or what we do. I help clients focus on the following questions: Who is God? What does God do? Who am I? and finally with those answers in mind answering the all-important, What should I do?

What is your "why" for your financial planning needs? What does God think of when He thinks of you? What are the good things He planned for you long ago? I'd love to help you in answering these questions and building a plan to use the resources He has given you to accomplish them!

HonorPoint Financial

I’m Matthew Gorrell, founder of HonorPoint Financial, a fee-only fiduciary financial planning firm based in Wasilla, Alaska. My approach to financial planning comes from both professional experience and real life. I’m an Army combat veteran, Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®), Enrolled Agent (EA), Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), Wealth Management Certified Professional® (WMCP®), and Military Qualified Financial Planner (MQFP®). Before founding HonorPoint, I spent years helping military members and veterans work through financial challenges, and my tax work has given me a close look at how financial decisions made throughout the year ultimately show up on a tax return. That combination shapes how I work with clients today. I don’t believe investments should be planned in one silo, taxes in another, and cash flow somewhere else. Good financial planning should connect all of them. HonorPoint primarily works with individuals and families, military members and veterans, small business owners, and people preparing for major financial milestones such as buying a home. Planning may include cash flow and debt strategy, tax planning, retirement and investment planning, military benefits, homeownership preparation, and the financial decisions that come with owning a business. HonorPoint is fee-only and does not earn commissions for selling financial products. Comprehensive planning is provided for a transparent flat fee rather than a percentage of the assets you have available to invest. That allows the conversation to start with what needs to happen in your financial life—not with how much money you can move into an investment account. My goal is straightforward: give clients clarity about where they stand, confidence in the decisions they are making, and a practical roadmap for what comes next.

For advisor listings, we rely on sources including public filings and data provided by advisors, and we cannot guarantee that all information is current or accurate. Advisors are independent and may not have reviewed or updated this information. Please review an advisor’s Form ADV and do your own diligence before deciding whether to work with them.

Advisor matching and introductions are provided by FinanceHQ LLC (“FHQ”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warmer and an SEC-registered investment advisor. We receive compensation from certain participating advisors for introductions or referrals. This creates a conflict of interest because we have an incentive to recommend advisors who compensate us, including those who pay us more. You pay no fee to use our matching service, and advisor fees are not increased because of a referral or introduction.
