Nelson Ham is a Senior Financial Advisor based in Charlottesville, Virginia, within the Global Wealth and Investment Management Division of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. He joined the SCH GROUP in December 2013, which comprises three advisors and one dedicated client associate with over 65 years of combined experience. Nelson has obtained Series 7 and Series 66 FINRA Registrations, as well as state Insurance licensures, and successfully completed Merrill Lynch's five-stage Practice Management Development program. Raised in Albemarle County, Virginia, Nelson earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia where he studied business and graduated with honors. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, he worked as an educator instructing students on SAT and PSAT preparation, as a sales and marketing director partnering with a commercial real estate developer in Virginia, and as an Estate Manager assisting affluent families. His expertise includes education planning, family wealth management strategies, legacy planning, philanthropic planning, portfolio management services, socially responsible investing including ESG, individual and corporate investment strategy, tax minimization, and retirement income planning.
Nelson is actively involved in his community, volunteering with PACEM and the Virginia Special Olympics. He is also a member of the Monticello Cabinet, supporting preservation and education efforts. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and skiing around the Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as spending time with his family.
