Why did you become a financial advisor?

I spent nearly twenty years in the jewelry business, starting behind the counter at Zales in the Park City Outlets. That career taught me something I've never forgotten: the product almost never sets you apart — the service does. How well you educate someone. How they feel about the decision they're making. Whether you're still standing there when they come back. Then, in the span of a few months, I lost my father, COVID hit, and Bitcoin bottomed out. My dad had planned ahead, and the life insurance he left me bought me the time to think and the runway to retool. It was one final act of provision from a man who spent his life providing. I dove into digital assets, then equities, then markets broadly — and realized I'd found a field that combined my lifelong skill (taking care of people across a counter) with a new passion (how money actually works). I became an advisor to do for other families what my father's planning did for mine. And I went independent because I got tired of watching clients at big firms see only half the picture — a large firm can only recommend what a large firm offers. As a fiduciary, I work for you first.

About

I'm Ryan Hammett, founder of Kimberlite Financial Services, an independent, fee-based registered investment adviser in Layton, Utah, serving families across the Wasatch Front and Park City.

Before founding Kimberlite, I partnered in a day trading practice — where I learned firsthand what it actually takes to make money in markets — then spent years inside the big houses at Fidelity Brokerage Services and E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley. That inside view showed me both how the industry works and where it falls short: clients are often shown only the in-house options, not every available avenue.

Along the way I passed the FINRA Series 3, 7, 9, 10, 63, and 66 exams — covering commodities and futures, general securities, securities sales supervision, and state law for both securities agents and investment adviser representatives. I also hold Utah insurance licenses in life, health, and property & casualty.

At Kimberlite, I bring traditional planning and digital assets under one roof. My view on crypto is measured: Bitcoin won't replace the dollar, and it isn't a scam — the right amount in the right portfolio, held with patience, can be a meaningful piece of a long-term plan. Every account is non-discretionary, which means you approve every trade. No surprises.

I might be a fit if you want a real plan instead of a default one — whether that's crypto alongside a 401(k) or tax-efficient retirement withdrawals. I'm probably not, if you're looking for hot tips or someone to trade your account without you.

Off the desk: married almost fifteen years, one thirteen-year-old daughter who is my whole world, and a garage full of boards — skate, snow, and wake, in season order.

Wealth Mode

Hi, I’m Justin. I am the founder of Wealth Mode Financial Planning. My team and I have a primary focus in helping those with over $100,000 in federal student loans create a plan to minimize loan payments and save taxes – without sacrificing meaningful goals like buying a home, starting a family, or saving for retirement. Our clients with high student loan debt: – Usually 30-35 years old – Graduated in the last 5 years – $250,000 in average household student loans – $200,000 to $250,000 in annual household income – Want to buy a home and start a family within the next few years - Are or plan on being a business or practice owner in the future We'll help you examine all your options – 10-year standard plan, refinancing, the Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) plans like IBR/PAYE/SAVE, and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). For married couples both working, you need to look at whether you should file your taxes Married Filing Separately. From there, we can identify how you can save the most money in paying off your loans while still saving enough money toward other goals. We’ll teach you everything you need to know about setting up the right investment portfolio for you, and which accounts you should be using. Then, we'll set you up with an easy-to-follow budget and cash flow system that will make it all happen. Last of all, let’s make sure you’re protected with the proper life insurance, disability insurance, and estate planning documents you need. Many of our student loan clients have a spouse/partner with equity compensation (ISO's, non-qualified stock options, RSU's, ESPP's, etc.), and we've become quite adept at strategic planning for that as well. We place a heavy emphasis on tax planning and prepare our clients' tax returns as well if they would like. Our clients include physicians, dentists, chiropractors, lawyers, and veterinarians - really, any high-student loan debt trade or profession. Our clients live across 25+ U.S. states in all four time zones, and some countries internationally. I love what I do, and how it helps my clients focus on enjoying their lives and careers instead of worrying about debt or money. _ _ Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and best friend AnnAlyse, our 4-year old daughter, and our newborn son (as of spring 2025). We love traveling, attending concerts and musicals, jigsaw puzzling, and anything else we can do with our kids.
