Why did you become a financial advisor?

I became a financial advisor because I kept seeing the same thing. As a CPA working with Washington public employees, I watched smart, hardworking people reach the edge of retirement with no clear plan. They had spent decades earning a pension, saving in DCP, and paying into a system most advisors do not understand. Then they were left to figure out the pension option, the Social Security timing, and the tax bill on their own. I had already lived that world as a city employee myself, so I knew how confusing it felt. Preparing their taxes each year, I could see the missed opportunities but only had one small piece of the picture. I wanted to help before the decisions were made, not after. So I joined LifeFocus to combine my tax background with full financial planning and give these families a clear path to retire early with confidence. For me it comes back to time. Good planning buys freedom, and freedom is what lets all of us spend more days with the people and places we love.

About

Based in Olympia, Washington. Serving clients statewide.

Seth Deal is a CPA and fee-only fiduciary financial advisor who helps Washington State public employees retire with confidence. He holds the PFS credential, the financial planning designation built for CPAs. That makes him a tax expert first, with full financial planning on top. In retirement, where every pension and Social Security choice carries a tax bill, that order matters.

Seth understands public sector retirement because he lived it. He worked in municipal finance with the City of Olympia before serving public employees as a CPA since 2018. He joined LifeFocus as an advisor in July 2024, working alongside his father and firm founder, Bob Deal, CPA/PFS. They keep the practice small and high-touch.
