Financial Planning Services is an independent registered investment adviser that works with individual clients to provide comprehensive financial planning and discretionary portfolio management. In addition to investment services such as portfolio evaluation, asset allocation, retirement planning and estate planning, the firm's owner—who holds CPA and CFP credentials—prepares income tax returns and provides tax planning to the majority of the firm's investment clients.
The firm uses fundamental, long-term analysis to evaluate individual equities, fixed income securities, no‑load mutual funds and ETFs, and generally implements client strategies on a discretionary basis under a percentage‑of‑assets fee. Clients may impose investment restrictions and the adviser aggregates accounts for fee calculation and, when appropriate, aggregates trades across accounts for execution.
What distinguishes the firm from many peers is the integration of accounting and tax services with investment advisory work; roughly 20% of the firm's revenue is reported to come from tax services, which may align tax and investment decision‑making. The firm does not take custody of client assets, uses a third‑party custodian for trading and client statements, and provides semi‑annual portfolio reporting.
