About

Olsen Family Financial serves individuals, families, and trusts — including both high‑net‑worth and non‑HNW households — and lists specialties such as small business owners, real‑estate investors, military service members, pilots, and medical professionals. The firm offers comprehensive financial planning, discretionary investment management, and financial coaching, managing about $14 million across 46 client relationships through a three‑advisor team and providing both bundled planning/IMS and stand‑alone services.

The firm’s investment approach emphasizes strategic asset allocation implemented with low‑cost index funds and ETFs, documented Investment Policy Statements, and periodic rebalancing, with tax considerations incorporated into security selection. OlsenFF typically manages taxable and retirement accounts through third‑party custodians on a discretionary basis and incorporates employer retirement plans and rental real estate into clients’ broader financial plans.

Compared with peers of similar size, the firm discloses a small number of atypical institutional relationships — including banking/thrift, insurance, state or municipal government, other adviser, and sovereign‑wealth‑type accounts — and offers public educational seminars plus a G2 Pathfinder program for adult children of clients, which is uncommon for a small advisory practice. The advisory team’s continued military service and advanced professional credentials (PhD, CFP, ChFC, MBA) are referenced in the firm’s disclosures and help explain its emphasis on education and client coaching.

I am the proud father of four incredible children (all born within 5 years of each other), and husband to a very patient wife (see previous comment). After attending the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, and while serving on Active Duty in the US Air Force as an Acquisitions Officer, I founded Olsen Family Financial, LLC in 2016, where I work as the firm's Lead Financial Planner with a team of two other amazing military veteran advisors. I then completed a Master's of Liberal Arts, Finance degree from the Harvard Extension School, after which I was fortunate to return to the Academy to teach finance and accounting courses. Following that assignment, I was selected for a PhD sponsorship, which I completed in 2024 at THE Ohio State University, with a research focus on how real estate fits into the personal balance sheet, behavioral finance, military finance, and life insurance. As much as I love financial planning, academia, and working with our clients, I'd much rather be skiing in Utah or Colorado, backpacking or paddleboarding in Wyoming, camping at our favorite state park in Ohio (Hocking Hills), or coaching my kids' lacrosse teams. Your finances, your business, your career, etc., are all important. We want to help you optimize those aspects of your life so that you can do the things that really light your fire.
