About

Ignite Financial is a state-registered investment adviser that offers investment management, ongoing and project-based financial planning, and educational seminars. The firm’s ADV lists a broad client mix that includes pooled investment vehicles and a range of institutional and non‑institutional clients — banking or thrift institutions, insurance companies, pension and profit‑sharing plans, state and municipal government entities, other investment advisers, corporations, charitable organizations, as well as individual and high‑net‑worth clients.

The firm describes a primarily passive, index‑fund approach grounded in Modern Portfolio Theory, emphasizing low‑turnover, tax‑efficient portfolios constructed from index mutual funds and ETFs, while also noting use of fundamental, technical, cyclical and charting analyses and the ability to recommend outside managers. Ignite Financial uses custodial and trading tools provided by its recommended custodian and accepts discretionary authority over managed accounts, and it conducts due diligence and periodic monitoring of any outside managers it recommends.

Compared with many peers, Ignite discloses flat, non‑AUM fee arrangements (annual flat fees, fixed project fees, and hourly planning options) rather than percentage‑of‑assets billing, and it reports receiving non‑economic support and soft‑dollar benefits from its recommended custodian. The brochure also notes the firm was formed in 2022 and reports no AUM at present, principals who hold CFP® credentials, and that the firm does not provide separate written reports to investment advisory clients.

Ignite Financial

I'm Mike Dunlop, a CFP® in Cedar Falls, Iowa. I run Ignite Financial with Casey Redmond, CFP®. We're fee-only and flat-fee. You pay a set number, and that's it — no commissions, no percentage of your nest egg, nothing to sell you. I built the firm this way because I got tired of watching good people pay for advice that had a sales pitch buried in it. If your portfolio doubles, our work doesn't double, so our fee shouldn't either. Most of the people we work with are about five years out from retirement or already there. A lot of them are Iowa public employees trying to make sense of IPERS — when the Rule of 88 actually hits, which payout option to take, what the taxes do to it. We spend a lot of time on Social Security timing and Roth conversions too, because a big pre-tax account is kind of a ticking time bomb once RMDs show up. We have to pay our share, but we don't have to leave Uncle Sam a tip. I was trained as an accountant, so my numbers run conservative. Both Casey and I have the heart of a teacher — if you don't understand what we're doing, you won't trust it, and you shouldn't. Air Force veteran, four kids, an acreage in New Hartford with chickens and too many tomato plants. Ignite Financial is a state-registered investment adviser serving a diverse client base including institutional and individual investors. The firm employs a primarily passive, index-fund investment approach grounded in Modern Portfolio Theory, along with additional analytical methods and the capability to recommend outside managers.

Find your advisor

For advisor listings, we rely on sources including public filings and data provided by advisors, and we cannot guarantee that all information is current or accurate. Advisors are independent and may not have reviewed or updated this information. Please review an advisor’s Form ADV and do your own diligence before deciding whether to work with them.

Advisor matching and introductions are provided by FinanceHQ LLC (“FHQ”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warmer and an SEC-registered investment advisor. We receive compensation from certain participating advisors for introductions or referrals. This creates a conflict of interest because we have an incentive to recommend advisors who compensate us, including those who pay us more. You pay no fee to use our matching service, and advisor fees are not increased because of a referral or introduction. We do not review the ongoing performance of advisors, manage or hold assets, guarantee performance, or provide advice about specific investments.

By using our service, you agree to our Terms of Service and Advisory Agreement, and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. Please review FHQ’s ADV Part 2A and Form CRS. Logos provided by Logo.dev
