Why did you become a financial advisor?

One simple assignment in a college finance class changed the entire direction of my life and career. In class, we ran a simple calculation: take one dollar, let it grow untouched for 30 years, and see what interest alone could do to it. When I saw the result, I understood why Einstein said, “Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world.” In that moment, my desire to become a financial planner was born. Immediately I wanted to save my own money and teach others how to save, invest, and improve their own future. Over time, I discovered returns are just a small piece of financial planning. I also help our clients understand… • How do we protect, grow, and enjoy what we’ve earned? What’s a tax-savvy way to invest, spend, or compound cash? • How do we organize our financial life so we’re prepared for the unexpected? • Where can we use money to lower stress or buy back time? • How can we use insurance to transfer risk and protect our family? • What’s a smart way to fund multiple, big, competing goals? Almost 20 years later, I'm still just as fascinated by compounding. But now I see compounding in a whole new light. I've realized knowledge compounds too. Every client, every tax strategy, every estate plan, every mistake, every conference, every book, and every conversation just adds another layer of experience in how I can help people make the most of their money and their lives. The dollar I watched grow that day taught me something I still believe: small, consistent choices, given enough time, can add up in ways that surprise you.
