BFC Planning, Inc. provides financial planning, asset management and referral-based outside money manager services to a broad mix of clients, including individual (both non‑HNW and high‑net‑worth) clients, corporations, pensions, trusts and banks. The firm operates as an enterprise adviser with a network of IARs and platforms supporting approximately $3.8 billion in client assets and over 11,000 client relationships. Advice is delivered through IARs who are typically independent contractors and who work with clients on a one‑on‑one basis to set objectives, impose account restrictions if desired, and select between multiple program structures (wrap and non‑wrap), sub‑advisers, and custodial arrangements. Portfolios are generally built from stocks, bonds, mutual funds and ETFs, though individual IARs may use concentrated, active trading or speculative strategies in certain client situations and may negotiate fee arrangements within firm‑provided ranges. Distinctive features include the firm’s allowance for IAR‑level fee flexibility and its use of a variety of third‑party platforms, including discretionary held‑away account management via an order‑management system and a direct American Funds F‑2 share class program in which assets are held at the transfer agent. The firm also discloses firm‑level measures addressing mutual‑fund share class selection (including prohibitions and conversions of 12b‑1 fee share classes) following a prior SEC enforcement matter, and maintains affiliations with broker‑dealers and an insurance agency plus bank‑sweep arrangements that the firm notes can create potential conflicts of interest.
