First Command Advisory Services, Inc. is an SEC‑registered investment adviser that serves individuals, corporate and charitable clients and has a long-standing focus on active‑duty service members and their families. It offers financial planning (including complimentary planning for certain service members and a paid Tailored Professional Services option) and multiple wrap‑fee asset management programs — Partners, Foundations, Select, Premier Income, and Elite — covering model portfolios built from mutual funds, ETFs, separately managed fixed‑income accounts, unified managed accounts and third‑party managed sleeves. The firm delivers investment management through a centralized Investment Management Team (IMT) and Wealth Portfolio Managers who design, monitor and rebalance Model Portfolios and select third‑party managers from prescreened lists; clients grant FCAS discretionary authority under an Investment Management Agreement for ongoing implementation. FCAS uses Envestnet’s platform for portfolio administration and Pershing for custody and execution, and maintains program features such as Fund Partner‑specific Models (Partners uses Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, Invesco and BlackRock) and passively focused ETF Models in Foundations. A distinctive operational feature is that clients generally do not choose independent external advisers to manage assets in the firm’s advisory programs — manager and sleeve selections are made by the IMT/WPM from approved universes and third‑party managers must be IMT‑approved. Other noteworthy aspects include the firm’s employee‑ownership structure, its emphasis on in‑person financial coaching, and program constraints (e.g., fund‑partner or platform share‑class limitations) that can restrict the choice of funds or outside adviser involvement compared with some peers.
